The Sound of Arrows - the second chance!
I'm a big fan of Swedish record label Labrador (home to Radio Dept., Suburban Kids with Biblical Names etc) and when they about 11 months ago revealed new signings The Sound of Arrows I was very excited (we wrote about them here and here). Unfortunately I found TSOA's first release "Danger!" rather underwhelming. Now they're back with a new EP and the title song from it is a real corker! The verse sounds like Pet Shop Boys and they use a children choir (I think!) for the chorus - can it get any better? Anyway, listen below and order the EP here. M.A.G.I.C! If this would have been Sweden's entry to the Eurovision 2009 TSOA could have become the new Abba. Now we just need to get Jo Whiley to hear this song so she can turn them into superstars! Or should that be "now we just need their label to pay Jo Whiley a lot of money so she can play it"? I'm not sure how these radio promotion things work. A good song is a good song, right? If I was a radio plugger I'd call "M.A.G.I.C. a twee version of Justice's 'D.A.N.C.E.'", I'm sure that would get the job done.

Stefan Storm (one half of TSOA, you know...)
Owen wrote about new Labrador-signed band The Sound of Arrows back in March (read it here). The EP he mentions is out next week. TSOA are Oskar Gullstrand and Stefan Storm. The latter of these chaps also have a solo project (cunningly under the disguise of his real name). There are only three songs on his Myspace page, but I actually prefer these to the TSOA songs I’ve heard so far. Give a listen to “Catch the breeze” below, it’s vaguely reminiscent of Le Sport / The Embassy. It’s catchy and fresh! Ok, so I’ve decided to buy TSOA’s new EP. If Stefan Storm can cook up such a great song as “Catch the breeze” by himself, his “real” band should be at least equally as great, right? Anyway, it was only £5 for 9 tracks! Buy it yourself here.

Arrow, how are you?

Not sure if I've had my head up my ass about this but I really don't know much about "The Sound Of Arrows".

All I know is what I've read on their myspace page and the lovely mp3 that dropped through my mailbox from everyone's favourite label, Labrador. It appears TSOA have signed to Labrador and you can buy their debut ep "Danger!" there.

But what's it like? Well I'm a big fan of this kind of electro-pop (think The Legends recent stuff sung by a less-annoying Brian Molko (only 29 results?!?)).

I looks like these guys haven't been going that long so I'll give them a break and not critise a slight lack of an edge. Tell you what, hjave a listen yourself as Labrador have made the title track from the ep available to download for FREE.

Alternatively you could listen to the much better remix by Mr Pedro here (even if he destroyed My Darling You!'s "Please Don't Talk To Me I Fall In Love So Easily"):

here - (sorry, it looks like a shitty 93kbps MySpaz rip...)
